Holy Name of Mary School Information
Our Kindergarten class is offered during the 10:00 Mass on Sundays. The schedule follows the Bonita Unified School District holidays, and other events relating to parish and church life.
The children have a textbook and a curriculum approved by the United States Conference of Bishops. The content includes Scripture, doctrine presented age appropriately, lives of saints and people of faith are introduced as models, and cultural customs and celebrations are integrated into the liturgical year. There is a family page emphasizing that it is in the family setting that children live out their faith. The activities begin each chapter to get the student’s interest in the lesson and then further engage them throughout the lesson. These include crafts, music and prayer.
The lesson themes on Creation, God the Father, Jesus, Church and Sacraments are carried through into the primary and intermediate years for the student. This continues the child’s faith journey so he/she will learn to integrate the Gospel values along with individual personal development and growth.
A limited number of children are admitted into this program. Please call the Religious Education Office at 909 542-0449 ext 232, for any needed information. Family Hand Book 2011-2012
Elementary Classes: The Holy Name of Mary Religious Education Program is for Elementary Grades 1 through 5, and welcomes public school children to register for a weekly faith formation class. Classes for new students grades 1 through 5, are held on Mondays from 4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Also, Monday classes are available to students, grades 3 through 5 that have received their First Communion and wish to continue their faith journey. This track is strongly encouraged for the child’s continuing faith development.
Thursday classes are held from 5:45 to 7:00 p.m. and are for all students receiving their First Communion this year. The sacramental preparation process as prescribed by the Los Angeles Archdiocese Guidelines is two consecutive years. No matter what year or grade a student enters Religious Education, regular attendance and participation is required for completion to make their First Communion.
Our Catechists are volunteers that share their faith with the children, using a curriculum and text approved by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Elementary Education Division. Their training is provided through the Office of Religious Education and workshop offerings from the San Gabriel Regional Office and the Archdiocese.
Our classes generally follow the schedule for the Bonita Unified School District. For 6th, 7th and 8th grade students, please see Jr. High link. Family Hand Book 2011-2012
Junior High: All students attending 6th, 7th or 8th grade are invited to register for Wednesday evening classes.
