The Faith Formation team at Holy Name of Mary invites your family on a new journey of faith this year.  Whether you have young kids
or teens, children ready to receive a sacrament or not, we are excited to accompany your family on the pathway to discipleship.  As we prayed and planned for the year ahead, a year that by necessity will be like no other, we reflected deeply on what we do and how we do it.  We reminded ourselves that at the heart of catechesis is connection with the person of Jesus Christ.  We reimagined what faith
formation would look like if we made encounters with Christ, not merely content about Christ, our primary focus.  We envisioned a process that involved the whole family hearing and answering Jesus' call to "Follow me."

The Faith Formation Program 2020-2021 puts families at the center of a flexible program with opportunities to fit each
family's unique schedule. Offering a monthly calendar with various options, each family will select experiences on three, interconnected pathways all leading to the same destination, a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church.

Nurturing a family of faith is not a spectator sport.  Parents play an integral part by modeling what a disciple of Jesus looks like.  By deepening their own relationship with God, parents are fully able to embrace their role as faith mentor to their child.

Parent/Guardian Commitment:
  • At least one ADULT FAITH offering per month

Monthly Options:
  • Gospel Hangouts
(Virtual gatherings connecting the Gospel and our lives through prayer and small group conversations)
  • Virtual Parent Socials
  • Other Adult ministry offerings at the parish
  • Personal practices of spiritual reading, watching a religious movie, listening to a podcast, etc.

The family is recognized as the "domestic Church," the smallest body of gathered believers in Christ. Families come in all shapes and sizes, but share the common task of giving children their first encounters with Jesus, prayer experiences, and a heart to serve others.

Family Commitment:
  • At least two FAMILY FAITH gatherings at home per month

Monthly Options:
  • Will be provided to families by the Faith Formation office
  • Will include multiple options to allow families to pick those which most appeal to their interests
  • Will be separated into two tracks by age (child and teen versions)
  • Will include special resources for sacramental preparation (Year 2 Communion, Confirmation and RCIA families) as the year progresses

We are one body in Christ and experience this fully when we gather together with our family of faith, the church community.  There are so many ways to connect and grow in holiness with others. We will continue to offer both AGE SPECIFIC and WHOLE FAMILY offerings.

Family/Teen Commitment:
  • At least one GATHERING AS CHURCH offering per month
  • Confirmation Teens: Commitment MUST
be in the Youth Ministry category.

Monthly Options:
  • Children's Gatherings
(Children's Liturgy of the Word and special themed events)
  • Youth Ministry
(Edge middle school and Life Teen High School Events)
  • Whole family offerings
(XLT Adoration and Family Faith Events)
  • Liturgical Services
(Weekly Mass and Parish Reconciliation services)
"The best and surest way to learn the love of Jesus is through the family." - St. Teresa of Calcutta
PLEASE NOTE:
For Confirmation Year 2, the final months will include weekly small group meetings with others teens in anticipation of the sacrament.  Dates and times to be announced.

PROGRAM DETAILS:

After registering for Faith Formation 2020-21, your family faith journey begins!  More details will be provided as our program formally begins in November.  Some of our plans for this year include:
  • INITIAL MEET & GREET:  Your family will be asked to schedule a virtual Meet & Greet time with a member of our Faith Formation team.  This is not an interview - it is a faith conversation with your family to get to know you and your faith journey to this point, find out your hopes for this year, discuss any special circumstances, share our program offerings, and answer any questions.  These will be scheduled during the first couple of months of our program - watch for an email invitation to schedule your day/time!

  • MONTHLY PROGRAM OFFERINGS:
Each month starting in November, you will receive a calendar of monthly options for ADULT FAITH and GATHERING AS CHURCH by email.  We plan to create multiple experiences to give families the flexibility to find the opportunities that work best with your schedule.

FAMILY FAITH sessions are at home experiences that you will lead with your family.  You will receive several options each month for your family to pick TWO that best fit your interests.  We will also create two tracks for FAMILY FAITH (child and teen versions) to accommodate the different needs of younger and older family members.
  • “FAITH FOR HOME” PICK UP DAYS:
As we planned a year walking in faith with families from a distance, we realized that there are several religious items that we want you to have in your home during this journey.  We will schedule periodic “Faith for Home” pick up days for you to stop by and receive these spiritual items to enhance your home experience.

  • MONTHLY FAMILY RESPONSE:
Each family will be asked to submit a monthly “Family Response,” sharing details from their faith journey from the past month.  What experiences/family sessions did you choose?  What did you like/not like?  What did you learn?  What would you like to learn more about?  We will offer different Family Response formats throughout the year.
