Raising Faith-Filled Kids: Chapter 2

REFLECT
  • Why did you bring your child to be baptized?
  • How do you help your child to know, love, and serve God?
  • What do you do to grow in and live your faith?
  • How do you celebrate the sacraments in your family?  What are some of your family traditions?

ACT
ENCOURAGE – Look for opportunities to share your faith with your children and encourage them to turn to God amidst their daily lives.  How can we be more intentional about sharing our faith with them and listening to them when they share their thoughts?

PRAY – The Catholic Church designates October as the Month of the Holy Rosary.  Pray this beautiful prayer together as a family.  You could start with a decade and have each person take turns praying a Hail Mary.

GROW – Seek a new way to grow in your own faith.  Some ideas include: listening to spiritual-themed music; visiting http://www.usccb.org/bible/reflections/ to listen to daily Gospel reflections; attending an extra Mass each week; stopping in a church and spending time in adoration for your family; or, following the attached prayer calendar.

PRAY
Thank you, Lord, for the gifts of our children and for entrusting us with their lives and souls.  May we trust that you will guide us with your wisdom and grace as we do our best to lead them to you.  May they know, love, and serve You all the days of their lives.  Please inspire us in our parenting, Holy Spirit!

As prayer is two-way, now spend time in silence reflecting on His word from last weekend’s Gospel.  What comes to mind as you read this passage?  Where is God leading you as you reflect?

Mark 10:13-16
And people were bringing children to him that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them.  When Jesus saw this he became indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.  Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.”  Then he embraced them and blessed them, placing his hands on them.

LOOKING AHEAD
Read Chapters 3-5 for the next Parent Sessions occurring the last week of November.

Thank you, Jen & Jose! Your thoughtful, faith-filled sharing as parents of 7 kids makes me more confident that God has given me what I need to help my two children to grow in faith!
