AdministrationAdministration Commission
The Administration Commission is focused on 3 key areas: Empowering collaborative lay leadership, Developing the master site and financial stewardship plan, and Developing long-range communication plan utilizing the latest technologies. Building and Grounds Committee The Building and Grounds Committee meets regularly to assist the administration in reviewing the facilities for the parish and school. The Committee will help the administration identify and address short term and long term maintenance issues and concerns. The Committee is chaired by Ed Zubiate. Charity and Fundraising Committee The Charity and Fundraising Committee is responsible for approving, coordinating, and scheduling all charitable and fundraising activities in the parish. Finance Committee The Parish Finance Council is required by Canon Law in all parishes and is there to advise the pastor in financial meters in the parish. The Finance Council meets monthly to review current financial status, long term financial health, stewardship goals, and adherence to applicable civil and church laws. The members are appointed by the pastor for three year terms. Michael Sanchez is the Finance Council Chair. Pastoral Council The Parish Pastoral Council is the consultative body that fosters the full participation of the entire parish in the life and mission of the Church. Its role is to examine and consider all that relates to pastoral work and outreach and to offer practical conclusions on these matters so that the life and activity of the parish may be in ever-greater conformity with the Parish mission statement. Phase III The Phase III Committee is in the formation stages but will soon gather to work in developing a possible final phase of our Master Plan. The Committee will address strategies, scope, goals, and timeline and the feasibility of this phase. The will prepare recommendations for the pastor and parish to consider. Safeguard the Children Holy Name of Mary Parish has an active Safeguard the Children Committee chaired by a parishioner. Other members include the Director of Religious Education, the School Principal, the Director of Administration, the Coordinator of Elementary Catechesis, and the Coordinator of Youth Ministry. Two volunteers from Religious Education and two volunteers from Holy Name of Mary School complete the group. Meetings are held quarterly or more often as needed. Safety Committee The Safety Committee is a group that meets regularly to review and address safety issues in t the parish and school. They work with the Director of Administration and the School Principal to identify current and potential safety hazards, then assist in recommendations to address the areas of concern. Technology Committee Purpose is to assist and advise the parish regarding effective technology for AV systems, web page, parish and other software and phone systems. Meets once a month in the evening. VIRTUS: Teaching Touching Safety Virtus training is required for all adults 18 and over who are active in any ministry that interacts with children. The purpose of the program to make adults of the Pastoral Care & Community Life Pastoral Care and Community Life Commission
In our large vibrant parish community there are many opportunities to get involved. The Pastoral Care and Community Life Commission focuses on communication and collaboration between ministries. Also important is insuring that disenfranchised members of our community are welcomed and supported. Bereavement Ministry Members of the Bereavement team minister to the grieved and grieving by providing compassionate, heartfelt care in the planning of vigils, funerals and graveside services. Family Festival Annual Holy Name of Mary Family Festival is held each year in April. The festival has rides, games, entertainment, boutique and food. There are numerous and varied opportunities to volunteer before and throughout the weekend. New Parishioner Welcome We live the love of Jesus by opening our hearts and arms to welcome our new parishioners into our family. Volunteers are needed to call new parishioners. Spirituality & PrayerCARA Ministries
A women’s ministry that develops day retreats to give women an opportunity to “Come Apart & Rest Awhile” so they can return to their lives refreshed with the love of Jesus. Retreats are held 3 Saturdays a year. Centering Prayer Group Centering prayer is a receptive method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God’s presence within us. This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. Centering prayer emphasizes a personal relationship with God and as a movement beyond conversation with Christ to communion with Christ. Meets every Wednesday from 7:00pm to 8:30pm Cursillo in Christianity The Cursillo helps people discover and fulfill their personal vocations while promoting groups of Christians who leaven their environments with the Gospel. Meets the 4th Friday of each month at 7:00pm in Room 201 Inspire 313: Women’s Group Inspire 313 is a place for women with wisdom or those seeking it, to gather in prayer, to help and support one another and become Inspiring women that encourage; equipping ourselves to be more like Jesus and Mary in our modern world. Meets the 1st Wednesday of the Month at 7:30 pm in the Day Chapel. Lightworks Program This a light retreat program based on the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius ofLoyola. These are Scripture based guided daily retreats in our busy daily lives meeting weekly or bi-weekly from four to eight weeks to share in small groups our faith journey towards a deepening personal relationship with God. Trained facilitators companion the retreatants during this process. Ministry of Moms Sharing (MOMS) As sisters in Christ, we are called to prayerfully support our roles as women and mothers of faith. We do this, guided by the love of Jesus Christ and His mother, Mary, through discussion, personal reflection, prayer, and sharing. Meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month during the school year from 9:30am to 11:00am in rooms 206 and 207 Oceans of Mercy - Young Adult Ministry This a group of Young Adults (age 18-35) who gather each month for praise and worship. Meet the 4th Thursday of the month at 7:00pm in the Day Chapel . Queen of Peace Rosary Group This ministry is built on the power of prayer, especially the rosary. Meets weekly for Healing Mass, Adoration, Rosary, Chaplet and praise offered for the cause of peace and salvation throughout the world. Meets every Thursday at 6:45pm in the Church Tuesday Rosary Group Meets weekly to pray the rosary, resources are available to help guide you to pray the rosary. Meets Tuesdays at 10:00am in the Day Chapel. Sacred Hearts Secular Branch As lay members of The Congregation of the Sacred Heart, we are called to contemplate, live and proclaim the love in the heart of Jesus as modeled by Mary. We meet for spiritual formation and adoration. We provide evangelization events, promote adoration and support ministries of The Congregation. Meets every Thursday from 6:30pm to 9:00pm Liturgy & WorshipLiturgy and Worship Commission
The Liturgy and Worship Commission invites all parishioners to active participation at Mass while fostering spiritual growth and attending to the diversity within our community. Altar Linen Ministry With deep love and reverence for the Holy Eucharist, the Altar Linen Ministry cares for the sacred linens. Training is provided on how to care for these special linens that contain the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. This ministry is made up of teams of who, behind the scenes in their own homes, reverently launder and care for the purificators and corporals used on the altar at Mass as well as the albs worn by the Altar Servers Altar Serving Ministry Altar Servers are young people who serve God and the parish community by assisting the priests at the celebration of the Eucharist on Sundays, holy days, weddings, funerals and other parish celebrations. Boys and girls may begin serving when they have received First Eucharist and are 11 years old. Art and Environment Decorate and prepare the church for liturgy in keeping with the liturgical season. A/V Ministry [Audio Visual Ministry] A/V Ministry enhances the sights and sounds of our liturgical experience at Mass through the use of the projection, audio and computer equipment. Extra Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion Eucharistic Ministers consider it a privilege and honor to serve Holy Communion at daily and weekly Mass as well as at special Liturgical Celebrations. Training is held twice a year. Life Teen Eucharistic Ministers Teens are invited to deepen their faith walk through active participation at Mass as Eucharistic Ministers. Training and ongoing support is provided. Hospitality Ministry Hospitality ministers reach out with a welcoming spirit of inclusion to all our brothers and sisters in Christ. Ministers of all ages serve as greeters and ushers at liturgies and provide information to newcomers and parishioners. Lectors Lectors are men and women who proclaim the Word of God to the assembly at Sunday and holy day liturgies. There is special training a mentoring process for this ministry. Music Ministers Liturgy celebrations at Holy Name of Mary are enlivened by the many choirs and diversity of music, adding a quality of joy and enthusiasm to worship. Life Teen Band The Life Teen Band serves at the Sunday 5pm Life Teen Mass. Sacristans Together, as a team, we care for the sanctuary and vessels. We create a beautiful clean space in which our Presiders can celebrate Mass. Wedding Coordinators Assist engaged couples in their journey to the Sacrament of Marriage. Social Justice
Social Justice Commission
The Social Justice Commission seeks to identify and assist under-served population in both the parish and local area in light of social justice concerns. The visionary mission of the Social Justice Commission is to support Jesus’ message of compassion, love and service. Restorative Justice/Detention Ministry Camp Afflerbaugh, Camp Paige, and Camp Rocky We bring the presence of God and His unconditional love to the young men of the camps, not with the idea that we change the minors, but with the idea that we are privileged to serve. Ministry includes weekly communion service, Sacrament preparation, and Bible Study. The young men are from 14 to 18 years old and are often abandoned, neglected or sometimes forgotten. Double Bag Lunch Ministry The purpose of the Double Bag Lunch Ministry is to extend a small act of kindness by feeding the hungry and homeless as well as clothing them. Helping to meet the basic needs of those that cannot do it on their own. The service takes place the 2nd Thursday of each month Environment & Ecology In his encyclical, Laudato Si, Pope Francis asks the question, “What kind of world do we want to leave to those who come after us, to children who are now growing up?” At Holy Name of Mary we are beginning to answer that question with a new Environment and Ecology Committee. Caring for our common home will be the focus of this committee. Outreach Eucharistic Ministers Bringing Holy Communion to our parishioners who are unable to come to Mass. Ministers serve individuals in their home as well as residents in a variety of assisted living and skilled nursing facilities. Sanctity of Life Ministry Recognize all life is sacred from conception to natural death. Purpose of this ministry is to pray, engage and assist those who are in need or facing life and death issues. Meets 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm Society of St. Vincent de Paul St. Vincent de Paul at Holy Name of Mary is part of a larger international organization. We strive to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to individuals and families in need. We help the needy become self-sufficient by providing financial and emotional support, food, clothing, furniture, appliances, housing and by connecting the disadvantaged to helpful resources. Meets 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm Winter Shelter Holy Name of Mary in collaboration with the East San Gabriel Valley Coalition For The Homeless opens its campus to a cold weather shelter for two weeks in February. During this period we offer hospitality, hot meals, shelter, clothing, showers and a warm safe environment for the homeless men and women of our region. |
Formation & Education Formation and Education Commission
The Formation and Education Commission is focused on formation that inspires and brings awareness to the importance of our faith in our everyday lives. Our faith formation starts when we are young and continues throughout our lives. Holy Name of Mary School (Pre-K – 8th grade) Called to live the love of Jesus we are committed to the unfolding of faith and high academic standards in every child’s heart and mind. Baptism Baptism Preparation Sessions at Holy Name of Mary are conducted monthly. Prior to having your child Baptized, all parents are required to attend a Baptism Preparation Session. Contact the parish office to register for a Baptism Preparation Session. Bible Study Whether you are a beginner or an avid studier of the Bible this is a place to dig deeper into Sacred Scripture.
Catholics Coming Home Welcoming Catholics returning from absences in church attendance. Providing information about Catholic beliefs and practices in an effort to make returning members comfortable in our parish. Children’s Liturgy of the Word Children's Liturgy of the Word is offered during the school year at Sunday 10am Mass. All children ages 5 through 8 (Kindergarten through 3rd grade) are welcome to attend, there is no cost or registration. The children leave Mass with the Catechist to hear and discuss the Sunday readings at a level they can understand. The children return to Mass during the preparation of the gifts. Adult Confirmation Adult Confirmation is for those 18 years or over who have been baptized and received First Eucharist but have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Program runs from January through Easter. High School Confirmation EDGE (Middle School Ministry) Faith Formation Pre-K through grade 5 Life Teen (High School Ministry) R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) RCIA is the journey of those inquiring into being received into the Catholic Church through the initiation process of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. This process provides an opportunity for adults to learn about the faith in a way that models the early church. If an individual wishes to explore the Catholic Church, or wishes to complete their Initiation into the Church by receiving the sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation, they are invited to journey in their faith along with the RCIA team and others in a similar position. Amazing Greys Senior Ministry
It is the vision of this ministry to provide a sense of nurturing and tending, and impart to the seniors of the parish that they continue to matter and be useful, having the gift of the “wisdom” of the later years, they are called to live a new life of creative loving in their later years. It is also the purpose of the ministry to address and allay the common afflictions of the seniors and elderly, the boredom, the sense of isolation and loneliness, and the sense of uselessness by holding regular fellowship and other social interactions, and by promoting their participation in parish life and school life. Meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 9:15am to 11:00am Barbara’s Blankets This ministry honors the memory of St. Vincent de Paul member Barbara Cafferty. Barbara served the Lord in many ways including making blankets all year to help bring warmth to our needy brothers and sisters. All are welcome to participate in this ministry, no special skills are needed. Meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7:00pm Filipino Catholics of Holy Name of Mary The purpose of this ministry it to reach out to the Filipino community through religious, cultural, and social activities; to promote the family rosary; and to support our pastor and church. Meets as needed. Grief Support Care for the grieving continues after the funeral through monthly Grief Support Group meeting on the first Saturday of each month at 9:30am. Guadalupana Society The Guadalupana Society is dedicated to service, charity work, and devotion to the blessed mother “La Virgen de Guadalupe”. Meets the 3rd Friday of every month Knights of Columbus The Knights of Columbus is a community service organization with the primary function of charity and service. Our first charity is our parish and its ministries. The Order is consecrated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and is committed to the protection of human life and the preservation and defense of the family. Meets 3rd Monday of the month at 7pm. Marriage Ministry The mission of Marriage Ministry is to help strengthen the covenant that bonds husband and wife and celebrate couples called to the holy sacrament of marriage, utilizing programs, educational tools, and social activities to support, inspire, motivate, and relate to the needs of its members Meet 2nd Monday of the month from November to May at 7pm. Martha Ministry Guided by the living spirit, the Martha Ministry serves God and the people of Holy Name of Mary with their generous gifts of nourishment and love. We provide meals to those in our parish who have had a loss, surgery, new baby, or are caring for a loved one. No Barriers to Christ Acknowledging that God created us all in His image, each one of us rare and special and wonderfully unique. Then He sent His son to teach us to care for and love one another as we love ourselves. This is a ministry for our Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender brothers and sisters, their family and friends. Meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 7:30pm to 9:00pm in Room 206-207 Prayer Shawl Ministry Bringing people together to use their time and talent to crochet and knit shawls, lap blankets, baby blankets, hats and scarves to spread our Lord’s message of love, comfort, peace and compassion. Everything we create begins and ends with prayer for the recipient. We welcome anyone who enjoys crocheting and knitting whether you are slow or fast. If you don’t know how to crochet or knit, we have wonderful loving members who can teach you. Meets the 1st Saturday of each month at 10:00am in the Parish Office Sewing Ministry The HNM Sewing Ministry sows God’s love through sewing. In the past this ministry has contributed their talents by making costumes for Holy Thursday, Baptismal gowns for Easter Vigil, aprons for Martha Ministry, pillow case dresses for Africa and gift items for our gift shop. The projects are simple to sew and patterns for each project are available to those doing the sewing. Sewing is usually done individually in your own homes, although small projects have been sewn at church. SHIELD Men’s Group The members of SHIELD, together in unity, seek to develop a greater understanding of who we are as Catholic man and as Disciples of Christ. We gather weekly to teach, learn, share, listen, to be healed, offer support, to bolster faith and find ways to become better as family leaders, men of faith, men of the world and men of God. Meets every Tuesday Stars & Stripes Ministry The mission of the Stars & Stripes Ministry is to pray for and support our men and women serving in the armed forces on active duty, and our veterans. Meets 2nd Wednesday of each month St. Joseph’s Ministry Provide financial help to people in our parish who are experiencing hard times. Plan and host the yearly St. Joseph’s table. Meets 4 – 6 times per year |

Se les inculca que el servicio que ellos proveen es de suma importancia pues ellos asisten alSacerdote en lo que es considerada la oración más grande de la Iglesia. También se les inculca que el servicio que dan es a Dios, Nuestro Señor y a su comunidad. Se les pide que los niños o jóvenes por los menos hayan hecho su Primera Comunión y tengan ganas de servirle a Dios y su comunidad.
Catecismo en Español (K-5)
Promovemos y enseñamos la palabra de Dios en una manera que es simple y educativa para los adolescentes. Crecerá una creencia y la comprensión de la existencia y amor eterno que Dios tiene por ellos.
Celebraciones de Quincenaneras
La celebración de una Quinceañera es un momento especial para la joven y su familia. Sus padres y amigos le presentan públicamente como un gesto de agradecimiento y gratitud por el regalo de la vida.

Preparación de Confirmación para Adultos es para personas de 18 años o más que han sido bautizados y recibido la Primera Comunión, pero no han recibido el Sacramento de la Confirmación. El programa se lleva a cabo de enero hasta la Pascua.

Los niños salen de misa con la Catequista para escuchar y entender las lecturas del domingo a su nivel. Los niños regresan a misa durante la preparación de las ofrendas.
