Catholics believe the Eucharist, or Communion, is both a sacrifice and a meal. We believe in the real presence of Jesus, who died for our sins. As we receive Christ’s Body and Blood, we also are nourished spiritually and brought closer to God.
For children preparing to make First Reconciliation and First Communion, the sacramental preparation process as prescribed by the Los Angeles Archdiocese Guidelines is two consecutive years. No matter what year or grade a student enters Religious Education, regular attendance and participation is required for completion to make their First Communion.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
RCIA is the journey of those inquiring into being received into the Catholic Church through the initiation process of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. This process provides an opportunity for adults to learn about the faith in a way that models the early church. If an individual wishes to explore the Catholic Church, or wishes to complete their initiation into the Church by receiving the sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation, they are invited to journey in their faith along with the RCIA team.
